Marketing and Production Intern

Lincoln Calling, Lincoln’s annual nonprofit music and arts festival, is seeking one or two marketing and production interns for the spring and/or summer 2020 academic semester. As an LC intern, you’ll dive head-first into critical festival marketing and logistics, making decisions on behalf of the organization to further the mission and impact of Lincoln Calling. Your life vest, the LC staff, will help you stay afloat, but don’t be mistaken: you’ll be doing real work with real impact and real results. We'll be here to show you the ropes and guide you along the way to help you develop your skills and gain awesome experience to land you a full-time gig in the Real World.


What does “critical festival marketing and logistics” mean, exactly?

Besides us learning your interests to help you tackle projects that you’re interested in, here’s a few types of projects you can expect to jump into on day one:

  • Assisting with the planning, production and marketing strategy for Lincoln Calling’s 2020 lineup announcement and fundraising party (15%)
  • Occasional blogs (bi-weekly) that highlight past artists, relevant community events/services, the impact of arts and whatever else is going on in Lincoln (15%)
  • Social media planning and execution to remain relevant and top-of-mind to festival-goers (20%) Local and regional event research and tracking for future experiential marketing opportunities (10%)
  • Recruitment and support for Lincoln Calling’s street team (20%)
  • Developing a marketing strategy for back-to-school/new student enrollment events to increase awareness and drive ticket sales (20%)


Ok, I’m interested. What are the requirements?

We’re always interested in learning more about who wants to contribute, but for this internship, we’re looking for the following in potential candidates:

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study at an accredited public or private college or university, or have graduated within the past 6 months.
    • Candidates enrolled in a relevant program of study may be prioritized, but that shouldn’t stop you from applying if you have what it takes for this role!
    • We’ll work with you and your school/advisor to help you obtain academic credit for your time with Lincoln Calling. You’ll learn a lot, trust us.
  • An understanding of the nuances between social media platforms and the strategy behind content planning for each platform, as well as experience with popular emerging social media platforms (such as TikTok and whatever else came out while this was being typed).
    • Unless you’re an influencer to more than your high school friends on Instagram, we’d prefer experience helping with social media accounts for an organization or business over just having a Facebook or Twitter for personal use.
    • Any experience in reporting or monitoring a social media page/account and/or blog goes a long way. Let us know about it!
  • You're outgoing, welcoming and eager personality is going to shine in this role. Don’t expect to lay in bed to accomplish everything for this internship.
    • Occasionally, we will have you assist our street team in marketing at other related events in the Lincoln area, where you’ll represent the organization in a positive and enthusiastic light. And yeah, free tickets to those events are often involved.
    • This isn’t last century’s rock-and-roll. In 2020, we treat each other with dignity and respect, and we expect any new members of our staff to do the same (it’s pretty easy to do).
  • A strong interest in various types/genres of arts and music, but more importantly, respect and advocacy for the music and arts that others may appreciate more than yourself.
    • You won’t have to put every Lincoln Calling musician on your party playlist, but you will need to communicate to an audience that does care about any particular artist.


What should I expect for my time with Lincoln Calling?

Internships with Lincoln Calling are unpaid, but for your time you can expect the following benefits:

  • Free admission into Lincoln Calling 2020 (plus some tickets to hook up your friends with) Exclusive staff-only merchandise (hoodies, t-shirts, etc.)
  • Occasional tickets to other local concerts/festivals (based on timing and availability) Additional perks that become available with the acquisition of festival sponsors
  • Coaching, training and support from festival staff that will help you develop your skills and rock your next (professional) gig

And don’t forget, we’ll work with your academic advisor to help you obtain any college credit that you’re eligible for by participating in this role.
